Bohemian Rhapsody

I sat for over 2 1/2 hours in a darkened theater and was mesmerized by what I witnessed. Rami Malek gives such an incredible performance as the legendary Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the legendary rock band, Queen. This, albeit a cliff notes version, is the story of the beginnings of the band and their careers as musicians and as a group. I found this film to be heartwarming, moving, and heartbreaking all at the same time! Rami Malek is superb as Freddie and their isn't a weak link in the terrific ensemble, director Bryan Singer has assembled.

I will say to all the critics that have panned this film that I strongly disagree with them all and particularly with those who have condemned the film for "wasting their time" showing a re-creation of the now legendary "Live-Aid" performance, which I strongly loved and it moved me completely and wrapped up the film very nicely and beautifully, put us the audience directly on stage with Freddie and seeing him finally comfortable with who he was and his reunion with his "family"; also with those who feel the movie dodged Freddie Mercury's sexuality and disrespectfully treated it like it didn't exist, I say "You're wrong!" The one thing that Freddie Mercury avoided throughout his career was his sexuality. He didn't want to talk about it. It was nobody's business and irrelevant! He was a musician. I feel that that is and should be the focus of the film, his music. I feel that the film dealt very well with his homosexuality, particularly his own internal self-loathing and homophobia. The press conference scene was portrayed beautifully and really showed how we put too much emphasis on a person's sexuality instead of realizing that there is so much more to a person and their sexuality has nothing to do with their quality of character. This film dealt with Freddie's hidden longings to be accepted by his father and to live comfortably in his own skin.

I highly recommend this film to everyone! From the "Live Aid" scene through the end credits, I sat and wept! I was completely moved!

Beautiful Boy

From the beginning I have to say that I was not prepared for how gut wrenching this film was going to be and how the focus of the film would be so varied and how it was able to focus on all aspects of addiction (i.e.; the addict, the friends, the family, significant other) would literally blow me away! This film did all of that and I sat in silence weeping at the end of this film.

Steve Carell gives the performance of his career as the father of 18-year-old, Nic Sheff, portrayed brilliantly and hearbreakingly by the wonderful young actor, Timothée Chalamet. The story is about Nic's steady downward spiral into alcohol and meth addiction and the toll it takes on his family, his friends and the beautiful young girl he falls in love with while attending college. This film realistically portrays how addiction effects everyone involved and the toll it takes on them, not just the addict.

I highly recommend this film to everyone! It is a rough film to watch and will break your heart. There is not a false performance in this entire film. Your life will be changed forever after viewing this incredible film!

The Hindenburg

I hadn't seen this epic classic in over 20 years when I sat down to watch it last night. It still packs a wallop and I found myself in tears by the end! The events this magnificent film was based on still holds its place as one of the worst disasters in aviation history. Of course Hollywood takes its liberties with this telling of the tale but it still, nonetheless, is a powerful human drama about a time and place of great unrest in the world and how these events could have possibly triggered a response that was one of several unproven theories on why and how this magnificent ship of the air met it's demise.

George C. Scott and Anne Bancroft lead an all-star cast with incredible performances all around. The story is memorable and will tug at your heartstrings. This era in aviation history was an amazing period and was the forerunner of modern air travel. Without the pioneers in this era, we wouldn't have the wonderful technology we have today.

I highly recommend this epic 1975 classic directed by the incredible Robert Wise. It is a film that will stick in your heart and mind for a very long time!
